Malkhut has two sukkot (plural for sukkah, the booth we sit in during the holiday)!
One will be set up in the garden at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Jackson Heights, and the other will be at Culture Lab LIC. We have events throughout the holiday week, and we look forward to celebrating with you! Each event is listed below, registration links will come soon!

Erev Sukkot in LIC
Friday, September 25th at 5:00 PM
In LIC
Join Student Rabbi Emily Herzlin and Music Director Kris Wettstein to welcome Sukkot and Shabbat with songs and blessings, followed by a community meal! This event is a BYO brown bag dinner. You only need to bring a meal for yourself and your group.

Join the Lange-Abramowitz for an Erev Sukkot dinner potluck in the Sukkah in Jackson Heights!
When: Friday, October 10th at 5pm.
Details: This will be a potluck! Please bring a dish to share and be sure it's labeled with ingredients.
Sukkot Morning Celebration in the JH Sukkah!

Join Rabbi Goldenberg and Kris Wettstein for an intergenerational Sukkot Festival gathering in the Jackson Heights Sukkah. We begin with meditation followed by our Sukkot Festival prayer service. Then we will shake the lulav and etrog, decorate the sukkah, and enjoy a potluck meal. See the schedule below for more details:

10 - 10:30am: Rabbi G. leads Sukkot-themed meditation in the sukkah

10:30 - 11:30am: Rabbi G. and Kris Wettstein lead Sukkot Festival services, including the singing of Hallel (songs of praise), followed by Kiddush and lulav and etrog shaking. Craft table for children to make sukkah decorations during the service.

11:30am - 12:30pm: Potluck lunch and decorating the sukkah
Sukkah Decorating in LIC

Join us at the Culture Lab lot in Long Island City to help us decorate our Sukkah! Feel free to bring a snack to share. We will have plenty of art supplies for you to use, but if there is something additional you'd like to bring to create decorations, please do. We will learn about the holiday of Sukkot with Student Rabbi Emily Herzlin, and have a chance to shake the lulav and etrog.
LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group Hosted Discussion in the Sukkah

During Sukkot, it is customary to invite ushpizin (mystical/spiritual guests) to join us for meals in the sukkah. Please join members of Malkhut's LGBTQIA affinity group for BYO lunch and a discussion about Jewish queer and trans ancestors who we can call into the sukkah this year. Open to all Malkhutniks interested in LGBTQIA history.
Dinner and Song Share in the LIC Sukkah

Join us at the lot at Culture Lab in Long Island City for dinner and a song circle! This is a bring your own brown bag dinner event. A Malkhut song circle is a chance to share and enjoy music together. Bring a song to teach/sing/share with the community (we will get to as many as we can), or just come to listen and sing along!
Sukkot Partnership Event

We're excited to express our appreciation for the ongoing support and dedication of our Malkhut Partners! Join us in Malkhut's Jackson Height's sukkah in St Mark's beautiful garden over drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and nosh. It will be a relaxed and enjoyable evening where you can connect with other Malkhut Partners, our team, and shake the lulav and etrog. This gathering is our way of thanking you for your generosity and celebrating your Partnership. Children are welcome.
Nature Walk and Text Study

In honor of Sukkot, join Malkhutniks Maya Falck and Annie Lederberg as they leads a nature walk and text study near the LIC Sukkah. There will be an option to learn about foraging/harvesting local plants growing in Gantry Park. This program connects to both the harvest and nomadic themes that are central to the holiday of Sukkot. We will also learn about the emerging custom of sourcing the lulav and etrog components from local plants in our neighborhood.
Simchat Torah

Join Rabbi G and Music Director Kris Wettstein and Cantor Miriam Eskenasy at The Garden School as we celebrate the renewal of the cycle of Torah for the year. This is the sweet culmination of our fall holidays, and we hope you'll be a part of it.
Sukkot learning resources:
Student Rabbi Emily Herzlin wrote this teshuva (a genre of rabbinic responsa literature) to explore the halakhic validity of the growing practice of sourcing from plants from one’s local environment to use in place of the traditional arba minim (four species) of the lulav and etrog. Student Rabbi Emily is delighted to offer this project as a resource to the Malkhut community to enrich our Sukkot practice this year!
