Marking the first anniversary of October 7, 2023 with Malkhut

St. Mark’s Garden (St. Mark’s Sanctuary, rain location) and via livestream

Monday October 7, 2024 6 - 7pm

We have traveled almost an entire year as a community from the tragic and traumatic day of the Hamas attack on October 7th, 2023 and through the ensuing horrific war in Gaza. We pray that well before we reach a year, the hostages will have been returned and the war will have come to an end. However, in the meantime, we plan to gather on Monday October 7, 2024 to grieve all of the lives that have been brutally taken and to pray for healing for all those who are suffering.

We will engage in a tradition of “kneytlekh-leygn,” measuring a wick and rolling it in wax to make “neshama licht,” or “soul candles.” Drawing on these old Ashkenazi rituals that we learned from the folks at pullingatthreads.com, we will call upon all of those who came before us to bring blessings upon the living and the dead. We will include prayers for those who have died, and as always at Malkhut, there will be singing to carry us through together.
