Zeno Samsky

Reuven ben Miriam Zakiah v’Dov

Zeno Samsky is the son of M.K. Babcock and Alex Samsky. He is in 7th grade and goes to PS 122Q Mamie Fay. He loves playing video games, storytelling through fantastical D&D adventures, and building Lego. For a few years, leading up to his Bar Mitzvah, he has been so excited! Now, he’s very happy to continue his Judaism as a Jewish adult.

Thank You!

Thank you so much to my parents, who have been so much help with handling all of these new experiences (and the piles of homework I have), to my grandparents for inspiring me so much, Sharone, for helping me first learn Hebrew. Thank you to Cantor Miriam, for helping me with my Torah and Haftorah, and to Rabbinic Intern Emily, for my D’var Torah. Thank you Jim for the Torah study classes on Saturdays. Thanks to everyone who has helped organize Malkhut for the past years and years to come. To the rest of the B’ Mitzvahs and all of my other friends for understanding and coming this way with me. Finally, thank you to Rabbi G. for leading all of the B’ Mitzvahs through this long and complicated journey.

Mitzvah Project

For my Mitzvah Project I joined up with The Connected Chef to bake and distribute challot. When I first started, I couldn’t think of an idea. But then it hit me– baking bread; for a good cause -- challah! So I researched, learning about a bunch of different organizations and ways I could contribute. Then, I remembered The Connected Chef! A non-profit with a goal to distribute groceries to food insecure families.

Soon after, I decided to organize a meeting. I met with Kim Calichio, The Connected Chef’s found and director, and together we  figured out a way to make it happen. So I did!  In addition to packing boxes for them, I baked nearly two dozen loaves so far, and more are coming. I now hope to scale up loaf submissions so other families can also help food insecure families in the neighborhood.
